ABOUT US

Welcome to Arrant-Smith VFW Post 4127, affectionately known as "The Friendly Post." Located right in the heart of South Florida at 601 NE 2nd Road, Homestead, FL, we are far more than just a traditional veterans’ organization.

Post 4127 is a lively community hub, a premier local social club, an affordable event venue, and a welcoming hometown sports bar. Whether you are a military veteran looking for camaraderie, a local resident seeking a great spot to unwind, or someone planning a major celebration, everyone is welcome here.

Our Roots: A Legacy of Service Since 1899

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) traces its origins back to 1899, when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899–1902) stepped up to look out for one another. Returning home wounded or sick, these brave service members faced a harsh reality: there was no comprehensive medical care, no Department of Veterans Affairs, and no veterans' pensions. They were entirely on their own.

Refusing to let their comrades suffer in silence, these veterans banded together in Ohio, Colorado, and Pennsylvania to form local organizations. This grassroots movement quickly gained momentum, officially uniting as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. By 1915, national membership reached 5,000, and by 1936, it skyrocketed to nearly 200,000.

Shaping American History

For over a century, the VFW’s advocacy has been instrumental in securing the rights our military community deserves. Our historic victories include:

Establishing the Veterans Administration (VA) and fighting to elevate it to a Cabinet-level department.
Creating the original GI Bill in the 20th century and successfully passing the Post-9/11 GI Bill (GI Bill for the 21st Century) in 2008, expanding education benefits for active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve components fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Securing critical compensation for Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange and heroes diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome.
Championing the expansion of specialized VA medical services specifically tailored for women veterans.

Honoring Our Heroes

The VFW does more than advocate in Washington—we preserve the legacy of those who served. The VFW helped fund the creation of the National World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. In 2005, the VFW became the first major veterans' organization to contribute to the construction of the American Soldier Disabled for Life Memorial, which dedicated its gates in November 2014.

VFW Post 4127 Today: Leading, Serving, and Belonging

Today, the nearly 2 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries contribute more than 8.6 million hours of volunteer service to local communities annually, leading major initiatives like Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week. From providing over $3 million in college scholarships to students every year to supporting local military families right here in Homestead, the VFW is always there.

At VFW Post 4127, we proudly carry this torch. We are dedicated to honoring military service, strengthening the Homestead community, and providing an exceptional space where veterans and neighbors alike lead, serve, and belong.
